🌾 Ingredient and labeling guide

Is almond flour gluten free?

Pure almond flour comes from nuts, which do not naturally contain gluten. Flour blends and shared processing still need checking; look for gluten-free labeling on the exact bag.

Check the exact product

NIDDK includes flour made from nuts among gluten-free food types. Bob’s Red Mill describes its almond flour as gluten free; that statement applies to that product only. It does not establish the status of every almond flour or baking mix.

Gluten ingredients and cross-contact

NIDDK identifies wheat (including durum and semolina), barley and rye as gluten-containing grains. It explains that cross-contact can transfer gluten during growing, processing, storage, preparation or serving. Ingredient origin alone cannot establish the gluten content of a finished product.

What does a gluten-free label mean?

NIDDK explains that FDA-regulated foods labeled gluten-free, no gluten, free of gluten or without gluten must meet specific requirements, including less than 20 parts per million of gluten. The threshold is one condition, not the entire rule, and it does not mean zero gluten. The FDA rule does not cover USDA-regulated meat, poultry and certain egg products, or most alcoholic beverages. Check current packaging and ask the manufacturer when unclear.

What this guide can establish

We do not estimate gluten concentration or promise that an individual product is safe. USDA nutrient data cannot verify gluten status. For celiac disease, follow your clinician or registered dietitian’s guidance; do not treat this page as a personal medical recommendation.

Common questions

Is almond flour gluten free?

Pure almond flour comes from nuts, which do not naturally contain gluten. Flour blends and shared processing still need checking; look for gluten-free labeling on the exact bag.

Does naturally gluten free mean every package is suitable?

No. Check the exact product’s ingredients, gluten-free labeling and cross-contact information. NIDDK recommends contacting the manufacturer if you are unsure.

Can USDA nutrition numbers prove gluten-free status?

No. A nutrient record is not a gluten test or certification. This guide does not estimate gluten parts per million.
